Did you mean…?

Socrates now has a spell checking feature.  When you enter a search, the terms will be checked by a third party vendor using Google’s spell checker.

For example, if you type a search,

Find author “chaikovsky,”

A message will appear at the top of the “no matches found” result, asking

Did you mean: tchaikovsky

You can click on the “Tchaikovsky” link, and the search will be re-executed with the corrected term, and you will see “AUTHOR "tchaikovsky" search found 727 titles.”

This feature will work on the Simple Search page (keyword, browse or exact), and in the top search box of a Combined Search or Electronic Resources page.  Keep in mind that the spell checker will not necessarily ask “Did you mean…” when there are close matches in Socrates.  Since it uses Google’s spell checker, it will ask “Did you mean…” when there are many hits on a close match in Google.
