Collection Relocation

Instructions for viewing Collection Relocation decision spreadsheets and for submitting suggestions.

Select the Dewey classification subject you wish to review. The SAL Dewey Materials and Library Selectors list is divided by subject according to the Dewey Classification scheme. The subject ranges of the Dewey classification appear on the left-hand side of the page and are linked to sets of data (Excel spreadsheets). If you click on one of them, you will be taken to the data for that classification range.

To the right of the range and subject columns are the names of the selectors who are responsible for making the collection relocation decisions and to the right of that is the email address for each selector.

Click here to go to the list.

After having decided which subject area(s) you wish to review, click on the appropriate classification. Note: when you click on one of the subject links to go to the Excel spreadsheets, you may be prompted to enter your SUnet ID (unless you have already logged in). This page is restricted to those with a Sunet ID.

You should see a dialog box that will ask if you wish to open the file or save it to disk. Given the large size of these files, we recommend the first option: Open it.

Color Scheme: You will see certain color codes (either the actual color or the word) used in the spreadsheets. The colors represent the following decisions:

      [blank]: send to SAL3

      BLUE: retain in SAL1/2

IVORY: Page back to Special Collections only

      PURPLE: Page to Branner Library

CHERRY: Transfer to Green or another on-campus library

GREEN: Discard (usually outdated editions of which multiple titles have been retained)

Please be advised that if you are reviewing the spreadsheets of more than one selector, there may be variation between them. If you are not sure how to read a spreadsheet, feel free to contact the selector responsible for it.

To Make Suggestions:

If you see a title about which you wish to make a suggestion, please copy and paste it to an email and send that email to the selector in charge of that range. To copy a title, go to the far left side of the spreadsheet and click on the number corresponding to the title you wish to recommend for retention in SAL1/2. After you click on the number for the title, the row should be selected (it will be highlighted). Now copy it and then paste it into the email you will send to the selector. You may send multiple titles as long as they are all the responsibility of a single selector.

NOTE: Before sending your recommendations, be sure to include in your message your status (graduate student or faculty) and your departmental affiliation. It may be urgent for the selector to get in touch with you to clarify or verify your message.
