Center for Polymer Studies, Physics Department, Boston University

The Center for Polymer Studies is a scientific visualization research center in the Physics Department at Boston University devoted to interdisciplinary research in aspects of polymeric, random, or fractal systems. CPS uses expertise in interdisciplinary physics research to develop experimental and computational materials for K-12 and undergraduate education. Items available include: the Dance of Chance, an interactive exhibit developed with the Boston Museum of Science which focuses on the emergence of patterns in nature; On Growth and Form, fractal and probability simulation software; and Water and Molecular Networks, molecular dynamics simulation software.

    ChemEd: Chemistry Education Resources

A collection of Internet resources related to the teaching of chemistry. Maintained by Alan Cairns of the University of Washington.

    Chemistry Courses on the Internet

Compiled by Gary Wiggins, Chemistry Librarian, Indiana University.

Clearinghouse for Chemical Information Instructional Materials

The Clearinghouse for Chemical Information Instructional Materials (CCIIM) is a project initiated by the chemistry information divisions of the American Chemical Society and the Special Libraries Association. Its purpose is to collect and distribute items that have been developed by chemistry or science librarians, chemists, and others to instruct people in the use of chemical information sources.

The Faces of Science: African-Americans in the Sciences

A presentation on the past, present, and future of African-Americans in the sciences, with special focus on chemistry. Prepared by Mitchell C. Brown of Louisiana State University.

Graduate Educational Opportunities for African Americans in Chemistry

This essay addresses the issue of African Americans being grossly under-represented at the highest levels of the chemistry profession. The authors believe that low African American enrollments in graduate chemistry programs are not due to any lack of desire, ability or interest on the part of these students. Rather, the fault lies in part with graduate chemistry departments throughout the country which have failed to recruit vigorously at the best predominately Black institutions, and seem unable to nurture and sustain all but a few of the students who do venture into their PhD programs. As a result, a large pool of young chemical talent has remained untapped.

    Journal of Chemical Education Gopher

Sections include: What is New?, Forum Curriculum Reform, Journal of Chemical Education, CHED Newsletters, JCE Software, Other Publications, What's Happening in Chem. Ed., and Other Chemistry Gophers. Provider: Division of Chemical Education, Inc. of the American Chemical Society.

    Multimedia Journal of Chemical Education

The purpose of this publication is to use technology to present information that will enhance chemistry education. It intends to accomplish that through the distribution of chemical educational multimedia, articles which use graphics, movies, and sounds to illustrate important aspects, and through online conferences.

    World Lecture Hall--Chemistry

Contains links to pages created by faculty worldwide who are using the Web to deliver class materials. For example, you will find course syllabi, assignments, lecture notes, exams, class calendars, multimedia textbooks, etc.
