Access and Circulation
Off-campus [SAL3] is an off-campus, non-browseable library.
However, Off-campus [SAL3] materials circulate through a paging service. Materials
are delivered to campus Monday-Friday. Paging requests must be placed
using the "request an item " capability in the Socrates
web catalog. A SUNet ID may be required. Patrons are notified of
paging results. Materials will be held for pick-up at the desired
library for seven days, then returned to Off-campus [SAL3].
The Off-campus [SAL3] is open to members of the
Stanford community by appointment only. Please contact the appropriate
subject specialist to arrange on-site use of the collections.
Paging to Green Library: Patrons who wish to
pick up Off-campus [SAL3] material at the Green Library Loan Desk may place their
requests using Socrates. Requests placed before 12:00 p.m. Monday
through Friday, will usually be available after 10:00 a.m., on the
NEXT business day.
Paging to Other Campus Libraries: Patrons
who wish to pick up Off-campus [SAL3] material at other participating libraries
must place their requests in Socrates. These libraries include Art,
Falconer Biology, Swain Chemistry/Chemical Engineering, Branner
Earth Sciences, Cubberley Education, Engineering, Mathematics and
Computer Science, Music, and Physics. The pick-up point must be
indicated in order for the request to be filled. Requests submitted
before 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, will usually be available
for pickup after 4:00 p.m., on the NEXT business day.
Delivery to Hopkins Marine Station Library will take an additional business day.
Circulation policies
Circulation of materials is available only to users
with a valid Stanford borrower's card. For students, faculty, staff,
and individuals eligible for the University's Courtesy ID, their
current Stanford ID card is their borrower's card. Other categories
of users should apply for appropriate library identification at
the Privileges Desk in Green Library (650)-723-1492. For more information,

Journals : 14 Days
All materials are subject to RECALL if requested
by another user or required for course reserves.
Overdues, Bills & Notices
Overdue fines vary by loan period. Bills for replacement
charges include the replacement cost of the item, a $25.00 processing
charge, and a non-refundable $5.00 billing fee. Replacement charges
vary by library and material type. Faculty are not charged overdue
fines but are billed for replacement charges and processing fees.
Overdue notices are a courtesy. Failure to receive such notice will
not be considered grounds for reduction or cancellation of fines.
Loan periods of 28 days or longer: no overdue
fines are charged
- 1 day after due date: courtesy overdue reminder is
sent.
- 15 days after due date: bill for replacement charges
is sent and user is blocked.
Loan periods of 1-14 days: overdues fines are
charged
- 1 day after due date: courtesy overdue reminder is
sent and fines begin accruing at the rate of $1.50/day to a
maximum of $10.50.
- 8 days after due date: bill for replacement charges
is sent and user is blocked.
Recalled materials: overdue fines are charged
- 1 day after recall due date: fines begin accruing at
$3.00/day to a maximum of $21.00.
- 8 days after recall due date: bill for replacement
charges is sent and user is blocked.
