Off-campus [SAL3] materials are housed in a climate-controlled facility roughly half the size of the Stanford Stadium football field. The site utilizes 17,578 shelves which will eventually provide room for 3,000,000 volumes. These materials are stored in an archival-friendly environment maintained at a steady 50 degrees Fahrenheit with relative humidity of 38%.

Materials are stored in size order, using barcodes for accurate retrieval and storage of materials. This system interacts with Socrates to maintain a record of all materials stored in the Off-campus [SAL3] facility, allowing them to be easily paged for retrieval to campus. Off-campus [SAL3] is an off-campus, non-browseable library.
