Art 600. Art History Bibliography
and Library Methods
This course, taught by the Art & Architecture Librarians, is designed primarily
for art history graduate students; upper-class undergraduate majors who plan to
continue in art history on the graduate level may enroll with the consent of the
instructor. The class provides an introduction to reference works and research
strategies essential to architectural and art history. Electronic and print sources
of artistic, historical, and cultural information are presented in groupings based
on resource types and topics. Several of these lists are reproduced here and may
serve as research guides to the reference literature.

articles, essays within collected works, and festschriften, including art
general, medium, and topical indexes.
Other Periodical and Literature
Indexes (Non-Art)-- General, discipline-specific, newspaper, dissertation,
and book review indexes.
Art Encyclopedias
-- General, media-specific (Decorative Arts), geographic,
or period (Early Christian).
Art Biographical
Reference Sources -- General, media specific, geographical,
or period; indexes to biographical sources; guides to artists';
signatures and monograms.
