Produced at the the Ryerson Library of the Chicago Art Institute, this provides coverage of numerous architecture periodicals and some 600 books published between 1919 and the mid-1960s. Journal coverage intentionally complements those indexed in the Avery Index.

Mfiche 1214 Art reference

Microfiche reproduction of the Courtauld subject index to periodicals. Coverage is from the 1930s through 1983, and includes fine and decorative arts as well as architecture. Especially thorough coverage of Burlington. The main section is organized into broad subject categories; there is a separate author index.

Indexes books and articles on classical and ancient Near Eastern art and archaeology. Annual. Has author and topographical indexes and a non-alphabetical subject index (in German) that takes a little time to get familiar with. Superseded in 1994 by the online file DYABOLA, which Stanford has recently acquired for the Information Center in Green Library.

DE2.I5 Art reference

Covers books and articles on classical archaeology and art. More-or-less annual. Lags five to ten years behind literature it indexes. Covers less than half the journals indexed by the Archäologisches Bibliographie (see above) but provides annotations, mostly in English, French, or Italian. Author, topographical, and subject indexes.

Another G. K. Hall publication of a local index, which provides author and detailed subject access to a small but important group of English, French, and Italian art journals produced between the mid-19th c. and 1969. Includes access to writing about, and illustrations of, individual works of art.

Provides excellent subject access to over 4000 essays in Festschriften published between 1960 and1975. Bridges the coverage gap between Rave and RILA (see below).

Indexes almost 6000 art-historical essays that appeared in about 1200 Festschrift volumes published between the late 19th c. and 1960. Classified according to subject--sometimes by medium, sometimes chronological period, occasionally a combination of the two. Indexes to personal names and place names.

•Répertoire d'art et d'archéologie (RAA) (1910-1989)

Z5937.R4 Art reference (center table)

Most comprehensive international record of art history literature, including books as well as journal and Festschrift articles. Particularly strong coverage of less well-known European periodicals. Indexing in earlier volumes extremely uneven until reorganization and change of format and frequency, from annual to quarterly, in 1972, which resulted in the addition of an excellent subject index. Coverage of antiquity, Islam, and the Far East dropped in 1965. Author index. Combined with Répertoire international de la littérature de l'art RILA in 1990 to become the Bibliography of the History of Art (BHA), available online via the SUL homepage databases link.
