Indexing 43 19th-century periodicals, vol. 1-4 include tables of contents and author information for a selected number of journals. Vol. 5 is a cumulative author index for the previous volumes. No subject index.

Author and subject index, currently covering 500 titles, primarily scholarly and "little" magazines not covered in other indexes.

Partially continues the Subject Index to Periodicals (1915-1961), a British version of the Reader's Guide; since the 1940s it has covered solely British periodicals; includes coverage of many local history publications and selected newspapers.
