Access & Circulation
The Branner Library Collections are open to the public. Reference
services are limited to members of the Stanford community and users
of the federal depository collections. Other users who do not have
a current barcoded University ID may qualify for access to the library's
collections and facilities. For questions regarding access and borrowing

The library is accessible to persons with limited mobility by using
the elevator from the first floor. Persons unable to ascend stairs
should ask at the Circulation Desk in order to gain access to the
maps on the mezzanine.
All Stanford faculty, graduate students, undergraduates, and staff
are eligible to use and borrow materials in Branner
Library upon presentation of their valid Stanford ID. Other
registered borrowers may use and borrow materials in the library
within the guidelines listed in the Stanford Access Policy upon
presentation of their valid Stanford Libraries borrowers ID. Contact

for information on becoming a registered borrower and obtaining
a valid library card. Federal depository collections users may borrow
materials from the California Regional Library; this service is
at the Information Center in the Green Library.
To borrow items from Branner's locked stack or storage collections,
users need to fill out a request form. Items will be then be available
the next working day after 12.
Circulation Periods
Books, monograph series
volumes, maps,
theses and technical
reports circulate by the quarter to Stanford faculty and graduate
students and four weeks to most other eligible borrowers. The above
items are subject to recall after seven days if requested by another
Stanford patron. If not needed by another user, these materials may be renewed via User Services: Circulation Records (Sunet ID required), by e-mailing Branner Library, or in person.
Most reserve materials
circulate for two hours. When checking out a reserve item, be sure
to note carefully the hour and day item is due. Overdue reserve
items are fined by the minute overdue.
Unbound journals circulate
for three days and can't be renewed. Bound journals circulate for
four days and may be renewed once.
