Summary: Subjects covered include: Geochemistry, Geology, Geophysics,
Drilling, Reservoir Engineering & Recovery Methods, Well Logging
from the worldwide literature on upstream petroleum operations.
Included are conference proceedings, journal articles, government
reports, books and patent filings. Paper index available in Branner
library covers 1964-present. A guide
to search commands is available.
The full text of more than 40,000 technical papers submitted to
the Society of Petroleum Engineers 1951-present is available. The
collection includes meeting papers, and unsolicited papers, as well
as many of those published in the Journal of petroleum technology
(JPT) and other peer-reviewed SPE journals. Indexing is provided.
Stanford ONLY
Branner Library maintains a full print subscription to all of the
peer-reviewed SPE journals and annual conference as well. A microfiche
set of the papers (1951-1995) is also available in Branner Library.
All SPE Members may access OIL's
index and order papers using their own member number.
Coverage is from 1964-present. Use NTIS Database to access the
latest U.S. government-sponsored research and worldwide scientific,
technical, engineering, and business-related information. NTIS is
the source for purchasing unclassified and publicly available information
from research reports, journal articles, data files, computer programs
and audio visual products from Federal sources. Some information
is available from international government departments and other
international organizations including those from Canada, Japan,
the former Soviet Union, Western and Eastern European countries.
NTIS items that Stanford owns can be found in Socrates.
For all others use the Interlibrary
Borrowing Request Form.
Endnote users: See these instructions
for exporting citations from NTIS into EndNote.

Summary: Includes abstracts of journal articles, monographs, reports
and other publication formats on water resources as treated in the
life, physical and social sciences and the related engineering and
legal aspects of the characteristics, supply condition, conservation,
control, use, or management of water resources.
Endnote users: there is a filter for importing records
from Cambridge Scientific Abstracts' version of Water Resources
Abstracts, available from Endnote.
None of the CSA provided files are yet searchable using EndNote's

Use SOCRATES - Stanford's
Web-based Catalog to find the location of needed books, journals,
maps, data files, and technical reports.
If you can't find what you need in SOCRATES, check other
Library catalogs or send a question to (Stanford
only) to Branner Reference staff: at branner@pangea.stanford.edu.
If Stanford doesn't have a document (article, map, book, report)
that you need, fill out the appropriate online form:

Listed here are a selected few of the dictionaries and handbooks
available in Branner and Swain libraries, designed to give you a
flavor of the types of information available. Either come in and
browse the shelves or browse Socrates
if you can't find the information you need in one of these.

Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry Covers subjects
like ecology and ecotoxicology, environmental management of the
chemical industry, soils, groundwater, ozone, etc. physical properties
of natural gas and petroleum. Stanford only.

Search SOCRATES - Stanford's
Web-based Catalog for data sets on cd-roms or other media that
can be checked out. For best results go to Socrates' expert screen:
using an everything field, type "cd or compact or disk
or disks or discs or disc or diskette?" AND the subject for which
you want the data. For example for earthquakes you might search
"earthquake or earthquakes or seismic or seismology" in another
everything field. If you retrieve too much either use subject
instead of everything OR add the place that you want, for
example: subject California. To request additional data sets
or help in locating information: send email to branner@pangea.stanford.edu
