The Payson J. Treat Fund

The Payson J. Treat Fund for Library Program Development and Research provides funds to encourage innovative projects to improve and enhance the effectiveness of SULAIR services and programs. In effect, the Fund offers seed money for planning, development, and testing of incremental innovation that otherwise might get lost amid more pressing department priorities.

The Treat Fund presents an opportunity for SULAIR staff at any level to play a role in problem-solving and in fostering creative solutions to a wide variety of challenges. Collaborative approaches to issues that cut across units and functions are particularly encouraged. Examples of projects underwritten by the Fund include:

  • Prototype RefWorks as a tool for the Information Center in Green Library
  • Organize and record the data, published and unpublished, from 65 labs and centers at the School of Engineering
  • Design workflow to manage adding PDF's to the print collection
  • Film and produce an instructional video on searching of the ERIC database
  • Design a prototype expert system for government documents reference service
  • Develop an electronic guide to the libraries (the 'Gateway' project)
  • Evaluate the impact of the electronic dissemination of government information on Jonsson Library patrons
  • Evaluation of interactive videodisc technologies to enhance access to visual resources

Recipients are expected to provide a summary report at the end of the project.
