1. The Stanford Publishing Courses
The Stanford Publishing Courses (SPC) joined SUL/AIR in January after the Alumni Association, SPC's original home, merged with the University and reorganized within University systems.
SPC consists of a small group of professional educators whose focus is to deliver top-level educational programs for magazine and book publishers. Among the group's portfolio of course offerings are the Stanford Professional Publishing Course (July 20-28, 2001) and Publishing on the Web: A Stanford Workshop for Publishing Professionals. (November 11-14, 2001).
The Stanford Professional Publishing Course is a world-renowned educational program for mid-career publishing professionals who are being groomed for top management positions in their companies. Now in its 24th year, the course is designed to provide participants with a sequenced overview of the complete publishing process-- from editorial development through layout/design, production, marketing, sales promotion and financial issues. The course attracts between 150 and 200 publishing professionals to the Stanford campus for an intensive 10-day course each July. Participants come from all over the U.S. as well as from 35 countries.
This year the course will be taught by over 40 top publishers and new media professionals. Among this year's speakers:
- Alberto Vitale, former Chairman and CEO, Random House
- Dorothy Kalins, executive editor, Newsweek
- Richard Stolley, Senior Editorial Adviser, Time Inc., and Founding Editor of People magazine
