1. MY CIRCULATION RECORDS NOW AVAILABLE

Stanford users with SUNet IDs can now find out what items they have checked out from the Stanford libraries via the SUL/AIR Web space. Records for items checked out from the Jackson Business Library, Lane Medical Library, and the SLAC Library are NOT available.

This new service, My Circulation Records, will also allow users to renew eligible items online, view outstanding bills and bills previously paid for or cleared, and look at items they have requested for hold or recall.

Users can access My Circulation Records at:

http://jenson.stanford.edu:9001/prod/owa/user_servs.auth_form

First, they are prompted for their SUNet ID and password. Once they have been authenticated they can access their library records. Links to My Circulation Records can be found on the SUL/AIR Web homepage (http://www-sul.stanford.edu) under "Circulation and Access", "Quick Links", and the introductory page to Socrates. Thanks to Jon Lavigne, Darsi Rueda, Jennie Nicolayev, Jill Otto, Pete Adams and the entire Unicorn Circulation Planning Group for their many contributions in creating and testing this new service.

2. WEB-BASED VERSION OF CATALOG NOW CALLED "SOCRATES"

The Web-based version of Socrates, the Stanford libraries' online catalog, is now the preferred version of the catalog to use. For that reason, its "transitional" name, Socrates II is being retired. The SUL/AIR Web space and the online version of Socrates are being revised to indicate this name change.

Available at http://socrates.stanford.edu/ or from the SUL/AIR home page, the Web-based Socrates includes features that are not available in the Folio version. One such feature is the ability to search the full catalog record, including information such as publisher, place of publication, and any content notes included as part of the bibliographic information. Links from the author, subject, and title fields of the full display (among others) make it very easy to find additional or related materials.

Although the Folio version of Socrates will continue to be available for some limited period of time, please encourage users to access the Web-based version of the catalog instead. The Reference and Instructional Services Committee (RISC) of SUL/AIR is continuing to work on further enhancements to Socrates on the Web; your comments are welcome and can be transmitted via the "Tell Us" button at the bottom of every search screen. For further information about the Web-based version of Socrates, contact Jennie Nicolayev, chair of RISC, at jnn@sulmail.stanford.edu.

3. SUL/AIR STAFF BADGES FOR 1999/2000

SUL/AIR Staff Badges, which are valid for access to both Green and Meyer libraries, expire on August 31, 1999. Badges for the year beginning Sept. 1, 1999 will be issued to permanent staff members who request them. To get a Staff Badge, you can send e-mail to priv@sulmail or campus mail to Privileges Division, Mail Code 6004. Your mail should include the following information:

Name, Department, Supervisor's name, ID mail address, and length of appointment (if it will end before 8/31/00). Also, please indicate whether you need a plastic badge holder.

Once this information has been received and processed, a new badge will be sent to you through ID mail. Badges will not be issued to temporary or hourly personnel at this time. Badges for these people should be requested according to existing procedure.

If you prefer wearing a Staff Badge for access to Meyer Library or Green Library instead of showing your University ID, please send the appropriate information (as described above) to the Privileges Division by Friday, September 17, 1999. If you have any questions, please contact the Privileges Division at priv@sulmail or 3-1492.
