1. Folio File Changes

Updating of certain Folio files will cease effective January 1, 2001 due to an outside vendor decision. The files affected are: ABI/Inform, EI/Compendex, ERIC, INSPEC, and PsycInfo. Users should note that Web versions of ABI/Inform, ERIC, and PsycInfo have been in place for some time, and new Web versions for EI/Compendex and INSPEC will be available on January 1. Please see the Databases page http://library.stanford.edu/catdb/alldata.html for updated information on current availability.

The above Folio files have received customized processing by OCLC to make them more compatible with searching through Folio Socrates. SUL/AIR had expected that renewal rates for such custom work would be going up substantially, and thus a phasing out of this arrangement would be necessary over the coming months. OCLC has, however, decided to discontinue the processing effective almost immediately. We regret the lack of notice to those who use the Folio versions of these files. Although no longer updated, the files will remain available for now. The AtoI Committee, working with the appropriate subject specialists, will make recommendations about when these files should be removed entirely.

3. New Computer Resource Associate for SUL

I am very pleased to announce that Sonny De La Pena, formerly of the Stack Division of Green Library, has accepted the position of Computer Resource Associate in the newly renamed SUL Technology Support Services. He comes to us after having been Lead Expert Partner for Access Services for about a year. I expect you will all see Sonny sooner or later as he is going to be answering Tech Support calls immediately. Please join us in welcoming him.

4. Colyn Wohlmut to join HASRG French and Italian

We are pleased to welcome Colyn Wohlmut as Bibliographic and Research Assistant in the French and Italian studies office. Colyn is a graduate of San Francisco State University in Music and recently returned from a year in France, where she studied French literature and music while also finding time to be a producer and technician for a radio program in Aix-en-Provence. During summer breaks from college she worked at Stanford in both the French and Italian Department and in Meyer Library, as well as in the Publications office. Since her return from France a few months ago she has been an Administrative Associate in the Department of Art and Art History while continuing as an assistant technician in Creative Arts and Technical Services at San Francisco State. In addition to her skills in languages and office management, she is an accomplished musician (Double bass and voice), so she is following in the tradition of multi-talented library specialists who contribute so much to our collection development efforts.
