2. Important Y2K Advice From CNS
Communication and Networking Services (CNS) will not perform any add, move or change orders during the last week of December, from Tuesday, December 28 through Thursday, December 30, 1999. During this week CNS staff is scheduled to perform numerous Y2K readiness and preparation activities, necessitating this temporary intermission in processing
CNS appreciates your patience and understanding during this change in normal work priorities. We have been actively involved with planning for Y2K and we do not anticipate any outages in any communications equipment.
However, in the coming weeks you may hear advice about unplugging your computer, electrical power strips, or any transformers you may have in the office before leaving for the New Year holiday. If you do unplug the power supply, you may cut the power to any multi-line telephone sets that are connected to that supply. These telephones will continue to work and have dialtone, but the display (if you have one) will not work. Also, when you plug the power strip or supply back in, it may take a few minutes for these sets to refresh.
Please don't unplug the telephone line cord! It's very important that all telephones are plugged in over the weekend - in case of an emergency, CNS has to know which phones are actually working. Please pass this information on to members of your department.
Remember, it's okay to unplug the electrical power supply, but not the telephone line cord itself!
