1. Landsat 7 Images of California at Branner Earth Sciences Library

Branner Earth Sciences Library, in conjunction with the University of California map libraries, has purchased Landsat 7 images for the entire state of California. The images have a resolution between 15 and 60 meters with almost 0% cloud cover. Most were taken during the winter of 1999/2000. The northern third of the state is available on CD-ROM at Branner. The remainder of the state is available via FTP from UC Santa Barbara (contact gis@sulmail.stanford.edu to order central and southern California images). 2. Serials Control Training

I will hold two training sessions to demonstrate the staff view of the serials control module. If you have WorkFlows, you can view serial records to find out when a piece was received or claimed, along with other information formerly hidden in the Serials card file.

The sessions will be:

  • Thursday, 2/15, 3-4 and
  • Thursday, 2/22, 11-12

If you are not able to attend, please contact me (ceaston@stanford.edu) and I will send you a copy of the handouts. I especially urge new branch serials specialists and operations managers to attend.

3. Phyllis Kayten Joins the Information Center in a Staff Position

Phyllis Kayten fills the half-time LS IV position in the Information Center left vacant when Malgorzata Schaefer became our Coordinator of Instruction. We are very lucky to have Phyllis who has a PhD in psychology and has experience teaching both college students and government employees. Before coming to SUL/AIR last May to work at the Information Center Desk as an hourly, Phyllis worked for the FAA as a human factors information specialist. There she discovered that she really loved doing research and has put that love to good use at the IC desk helping patrons.
