Library staff will doubtless be pleased to note that in his eighth and final summer letter to Stanford alumni (also known as the "pastoral" letter), President Casper remarked "In the last year, the university has continued to make a great deal of progress. In the fall, the newly renovated and seismically strengthened Bing Wing of Green Library (the old main library) opened, and it has quickly regained its position as a core part of the intellectual life of the campus."

Anyone visiting the reading rooms and the Bender room at almost any time during the quarter, day or night, will see ample evidence of the libraryıs popularity. How very rewarding to all those at the Libraries, and beyond, who worked so hard to bring the building back on line.

Do you know someone who needs a job? Conservation Treatment is seeking men, women, and teenagers of iron-strong and strong- willed -- to throw themselves into what may be one of the dirtiest jobs on the peninsula. The job site is a seldom visited library outpost, the notorious Building 160. Windowless, stuffy, and full of atmosphere, Building 160 will provide you with plenty of material for your next novel. Successful candidates will haul, scour, wrap, pack, and haul again, some three floors of books and boxes in preparation for moving them to a new site.

Candidates must be good-natured, reliable, determined, and possess a sense of humor. They must be fluent in English and able to lift 40 pounds. Candidates must not be opposed to getting dirty.

N.B. This is a fleeting opportunity. Start date: Very Soon. End date: Late August or when the job is done, whichever comes first.
