1. PLEASE RETURN YOUR SLSA ELECTION BALLOT

Ballots for the election for 1999-2000 officers of the Stanford Library Staff Association (SLSA) were sent out earlier this week via email. Please return your ballot to James Liu by Interlibrary Mail (Attn: James Liu, Lane Medical Library), ID Mail (mail code 5123), or by email (james@lanelib.stanford.edu).

The slate for 1999-2000 officers is as follows:

  1. Vice President/President-Elect: Rikke Greenwald, Lane Medical Library
  2. Treasurer: Pam Murnane, Lane Medical Library
  3. Member-at-Large: Evelyn McMillan: Tanner Philosophy Library
  4. Member-at-Large in charge of BookSale: Michael Beller, Meyer Library

This year, all four offices have only one candidate.

Birgit Calhoun of Crown Law Library, the current Vice President/President Elect, will become the next SLSA President after the election.

2. NEW WEB SERVICES FROM UC BERKELEY'S DIGITAL LIBRARY SUNSITE

The Berkeley Digital Library SunSITE builds digital collections and services while providing information and support to digital library developers worldwide. Two new SunSITE services may be of particular interest to Library staff:

Search UC Libraries - Simultaneous searching of all University of California library Web sites.

http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/uclibs/

LibraryLand - Simultaneous searching of the contents of selected library Web servers, including the American Library Association, Library Staff Support Resource Center, our own Andrea Sevetson's site for government documents librarians, and others. Jerry Kuntz from the Ramapo Catskill Library System in New York is responsible for this site.

http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/LibraryLand/

These sites were developed using the same technique. A selected group of sites are "crawled" (the recursive retrieval of files from a Web server) using the free UNIX software WGet, indexed with our own SWISH-Enhanced indexing software, and made available through an in-house Perl program. Since we do not retrieve any images, the amount of disk space required is negligible.
