It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Kathy Kerns as interim head of the Green Library Information Center. Kathy began her employment at the Meyer Library in 1988 and since then has worked in SUL/AIR in a variety of critical reference, instructional and technology-related roles, including service as chair of the Information Center Planning Group 1997-1998. At the same time she has been engaged in collection activities, both as librarian for undergraduate feminist studies and, since last year's opening of the Information Center, as coordinator for IC collections and information resources. Prior to Stanford, Kathy was reference librarian at the Herrick Memorial Library, Alfred University in New York, serving as head of the Reference Department from 1987-88. Her academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Education (1993) from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A (1979) in American History from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and an MLS (1971) also from SUNY-Buffalo. She has published numerous articles and scholarly contributions on various aspects of American women's history. Kathy takes on this new assignment (which she has been performing since June 1 of this year) during a critical renewal period for the Information Center. Thank you Kathy!

I am pleased to announce that James Harris is moving into a new position within Serials. His torturous new title is Electronic Products/Unicorn Serials Control Specialist. James' time will be divided between acquiring electronic resources (and troubleshooting the attendant problems) and troubleshooting and testing of the Unicorn serials control module. James has worked with serials in SUL since 1986. His duties have included database maintenance, check in, claiming, as well as problem solving and special projects. James has been acting in the Electronic Products Specialist role for some time. I am grateful that James was willing to fill this role on a permanent basis as well as assuming responsibilities related to the new serials control module. Last Saturday, Hopkins Marine Station hosted its first open house in 8 years. Close to 2,000 people came through the Station and the library. Sue and I took advantage of the exposure and identified a potential new employee to fill Mary West's old position working in the library on Wednesdays. I gave two talks with slides on the history of Hopkins. I also helped produce a ten foot long timeline that was on display. Even though my first talk was at 10 am, right when we opened the gates, there was a standing room only crowd in the auditorium. For those of you who didn't make it, I recently put up a new set of web pages for Hopkins Marine Station. Included among the new web pages is a chronology of HMS history that shows many of the historic pictures I used in my talk. You can get to it by going to:

SLSA will be sponsoring a satellite downlink of MLA's teleconference about e-journals, libraries and accessibility. The goal for the teleconference is "To enhance the knowledge of electronic publishing and to explore the issues, perceptions, experiences, benefits, potential pitfalls, and challenges facing librarians as they confront these revolutionary changes in knowledge-based information delivery." Attendees will receive 1.5 MLA CE contact hours.
