1. dd-ILL is Done; Long Live dd-ILL!
As of September 30, SUL/AIR's Digital Delivery of Interlibrary Loan
(dd-ILL) pilot project, generously funded for two years by a grant from
the California State Library, has completed its work. The pilot project
saw major successes in the efficient production and delivery of digital
copies of out-of-copyright monographs to remote users, and, because these
copies will be available online in perpetuity, in the expansion of SUL's
own digital library. dd-ILL digitized and delivered its 500th volume in
the final days of the grant period, which is more than three times the
modest (as it turned out) goals set at the beginning of the two grant
years. In addition, the dd-ILL program has been noted and praised by the
interlibrary loan community, by staff involved, and, most importantly, by
users of our digitized materials.
Thanks to the generosity and support of the Libraries' directors, the
dd-ILL project will be continuing its work, and as of October 1 is funded
as part of the regular SUL/AIR budget. With the help of the fine dd-ILL
staff, Sharon Hom and Peter Burchard, whose outstanding work has brought
the project all of its successes so far, we look forward to another year
of productivity, integration and expanded access to our unique collections.
