Academic Computing is pleased to announce that the Tresidder Computer Lair will be open 24 hours a day starting on September 27th. There was such a great response to the iMacs on the first floor of Meyer Library being available 24 hours a day that we wanted to provide another space that was accessible at all the times. To accommodate the new hours at the Tresidder Lair, we have made several changes, including no longer providing consultants at the Lair. The Tresidder Lair will be supported by the Meyer consultants. Patrons can contact a consultant by sending emails to consult@acomp.stanford.edu, calling 723-9407, or by going to the second floor of Meyer Library during regular hours (Mon.-Thurs.: 8am - midnight, Fri.: 8am - 6pm, Sat.: 1pm - 9pm, Sun.: noon - midnight).

We are happy to announce Lei Li You as a new part-time Library Specialist I at the Auxiliary Library.

Lei Li was previously at Qwest Cyber Solutions in the accounting department and also has been attending Foothill College for computer classes. In addition, Lei Li has prior experience as a Librarian in Shanghai, China.

Please extend a warm welcome to Lei Li.

The Catalog Department has filled two long awaited positions and created a brand new Intern program, adding three dynamic and skilled staff to its ranks this week.

Nancy Hoebelheinrich is here to begin and lead a Metadata Cataloging program. This is the Department's first step in fulfilling a long-term goal of increasing access to digital materials. Nancy comes to us from a distinguished career as a law librarian at University of San Francisco and Golden Gate University. She will be working with many of us grappling with the issues of living the digital library. You may remember Nancy when she served as Assistant to the Director of Instructional Research Services in the late 1980's.

Adrienne Arden is also a familiar face who worked with us from 1995 to 1999 as the Head of the Meyer Reserves Unit. She is filling the half-time position vacated a while ago by Grace Yang, rounding out the valiant efforts of the Data Control team. Adrienne will be doing catalog maintenance and copy cataloging work and hopes to spend her other half-time establishing a writing career.

Celine Carty, a recent library school graduate from the University of Sheffield, England will be participating as a Cataloging Intern in the MARC unit under the tutelage of the original catalogers in that group. This is a new program for us that affords recent graduates an opportunity to work in the United States, gaining valuable training to take back home. Celine will be with us for 18 months, training in BIBCO and NACO (our national standards) and doing a variety of projects, the first being a stint cataloging Western European Belles Lettres.
