1. STANFORD LIBRARIES CATALOG: A WEB VERSION OPEN TO ALL
A Stanford Web-based catalog for all the world to see is now up:Sirsi's webcat.
To access, go to the catalog start page:
http://socrates.stanford.edu
At the bottom, under "open to all", follow the link "Stanford
Libraries Catalog - Web version"
This public Web version of the library catalog differs from
Socrates via the Web. One obvious variation is the blue toolbar buttons as opposed to Web Socrates' red buttons. Also the search screens, "quick search" and "complex search", are a shift from the "basic", "browse", and "expert" searches found in Socrates via the Web. Especially for anyone at a public service point, you will probably want to familiarize yourself with the new interface.
If you spot Stanford users searching the Sirsi webcat, then recommend they instead search Web Socrates for its greater functionality. Web Socrates has various "request" functions available only for Stanford users: to page items from SAL and Hopkins, to notify users when on-order items are available, and to place holds or recalls on items. Sirsi's webcat does not offer these Stanford-only features. At the bottom of the Sirsi webcat "quick search" screen is a link for Stanford users to connect to Socrates. For all the additional functionality, we want our primary patrons using Web Socrates, "the one with the red buttons".
If you have questions about Sirsi's webcat, "the one with the blue buttons", please contact RISC at risc@forsythe.stanford.edu or use the "Tell Us" button.
