1. Academic Computing Welcomes David Futey
Please join me in welcoming David Futey to Academic Computing. Dave comes to us from Kent State, where he managed their residential technology programs and taught courses on related topics. Several of us have had the opportunity to work with him because he is a member of the ResNet steering committee and was actively engaged in the conference we recently hosted. (For more about ResNet, see http://resnet.stanford.edu/.) Please feel free to stop by Dave's office to say hello; it's on the second floor of Meyer Library, behind the consulting desk.
Dave is filling a newly defined position as the Manager for Academic Computing Operations. His area of purview includes the technology and spaces in Meyer and Tresidder, the Meyer consulting operation, and the oversight for technical integration across all our programs. He will work closely with the other managers to assure that we're technically and programmatically cohesive, and will coordinate technology and services with others outside our organization as well. (For more about Academic Computing, see our newly designed Web site at http://acomp.stanford.edu/.)
Most of you know that Olivia Williamson is moving to a half-time position with us, which necessitated defining the new position. She will continue to manage the support to the Libraries and participate in Library technical projects. I am grateful for her efforts and am delighted that she will be able to stay with us after she starts school this fall.
