ArcAtlas: Our Earth

Data Description

ArcAtlas: Our Earth contains global geographic and attribute data at three scales (1:10,000,000 for Europe, 1:20,000,000 for North and South America, Africa and Antarctica 1:25,000,000 for Asia and Australia).   The data set was produced by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) and can be used with the ArcView and ArcInfo software packages.

What ArcAtlas includes:

More than 40 different geographic themes among the following subjects: the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, society, social infrastructure, and resources

ArcAtlas Formats:

  • Cartographic data is present for each geographic theme in the form of ArcInfo coverages by continent. Note: Antarctica is only included for some themes.
  • Space images and photographs illustrate specific geographic features on each continent as well as typical examples of classes among mapped features.
  • Map images include reference maps, example maps for each geographic theme, and world maps.
  • ArcView projects with prepared views (maps and legends).
  • Online text including:

    - Definitions of feature attributes, codes, and comprehensive legends
    - Technical descriptions of data sources
    - Indexes to the data and images
    - Descriptions of key geographical terms
    - Methods of map compilation and preparation

Data Location
The ArcAtlas datasets are available through our AFS directory.

ArcAtlas is also available on CD-ROM and may be borrowed from the library.
