All GIS users must complete a
tutorial before receiving additional assistance from GIS staff.
ArcView 3.x
Complete either the GIS
tutorial book called "Getting to know ArcView" or the introduction
to ArcView 3.x class on ESRI's
Virtual Campus.
ArcGIS
There is a GIS tutorial
called "Getting to know ArcGIS" at the GIS workstations. Complete
the exercises in the Getting to Know ArcGIS book by using the
exercise data on the GIS machines, or by checking out a copy with
a data CD-ROM. It is a good idea to complete the first 13 chapters
to familiarize yourself with the ArcGIS program before beginning
your project. Alternatively, you can take introductory courses
in ArcGIS through ESRI's
Virtual Campus.
Many Websites with GIS instruction
can be reached from our Learning
GIS page.
After you are familiar with the basics
of GIS, make an appointment for a GIS consultation with our GIS
Staff.
Faculty
If would like to have a class utilize
Branner GIS resources, please designate a TA to receive instruction
from Branner GIS consultants. The TA will then be responsible
for assisting the students in the class with their GIS projects.
GIS Manuals
Branner Library has several
GIS software manuals available at the GIS workstations. Additional
software manuals and GIS texts are available for borrowing. Call
numbers can be found by searching Socrates.
