Humanities Computing Resources and Services
The Humanities
Digital Information Service (HDIS), located in the Lane Room,
is the computing wing of the Humanities and Area Studies Resource
Center. In its online presence, HDIS provides searchable, full-text
databases of literature, philosophy and histrory for the Stanford
community, as well as online image collections such as the Dime
Novels and Penny Dreadfuls image collection.
HDIS also offers assistance in preparing research-quality collections
for humanities scholars and students, and provides support and instruction
in the use of these collections. HDIS welcomes inquiries about machine-assisted
text analysis tools and techniques, as well as questions about humanities
computing generally. Please contact gworthey@stanford.edu.
In its physical incarnation, HDIS supports the humanities computing
public computer cluster in the Lane Room, and is prepared to offer
assistance and instruction in using the applications located there.
Finally, HDIS maintains a non-circulating book and CD-ROM collection
on topics in Digital Culture and Humanities Computing. This is a
rich and growing resource of current thought in these emerging fields.
For more information on the book collection, see the booklist.
For access to the CD-ROM collection, see library staff in room 221
or at the Information Center Desk.
