The Hancock Family Papers.

Contents: The main body of this collection consists of the Massachusetts
Historical Society's collection of John Hancock papers. It was extensively
supplemented
by letters drawn from other Society manuscripts and includes correspondence
by Dorothy, Ebenezer, Lydia, Mary, and Thomas Hancock. The collection of
Hancock Family letters provides insight into one of America's best-known
Revolutionary-era families as they, with others, struggled to build a new
nation.

notes, drafts, an autobiography, and legal and financial documents related to
his work in the Virginia House of Delegates, the Continental Congress, the Constitutional
Convention, the House of Representatives, as secretary of state, his two terms

Contents: James Pattison was Commander of the Royal Artillery in
North America and his papers contain the official records
of his service in America at the
time of the American Revolution. They therefore comprise valuable
manuscript sources for historians, and particularly military historians,
of the Revolutionary period. Pattison's letters and records, some
containing information available nowhere else, contain details
of military
operations, the strength and
disposition of troops, promotions, discipline, and a wealth of
information and insight into the situation in New York during the

Contents: Consists chiefly of the personal papers of Henry Lee (1782-1867),
a prosperous India merchant, free trade economist, and publicist. There
are also the papers of his wife, Mary Jackson Lee, and other members
of her family. Material covers matters ranging from
the military, politics, and historic preservation, to Lee family
genealogical materials. Of special interest is the considerable information
on mercantile
business practices in the world during the century 1760-1860, specifically
on the Chinese, Indian, European, South American, and West Indian
trades.

papers of the Contintental Congress that are not a part of the
numbered

series of volumes comprising the main body of records reproduced
as Papers of the Continental Congress. They are
dated 1774-1789 for the most part, although one letter is dated
1773 and a few papers are dated after 1789. The documents consist
chiefly of loose papers and a few volumes relating to such subjects
as
foreign,
naval, and fiscal affairs,
papers relating to specific States, and papers kept by the Office
of the Secretary of Congress. Among them are originals and copies
of despatches and letters (including some letters from Louis XVI),
reports of the Marine Committee, the Marine Committee Letter Book,
bonds, receipts, deeds of cession of Western Lands, credentials
of Delegates to the Continental Congress, and broadsides issued
by the Congress.

The Papers of Aaron Burr, 1756-1836.
Glen Rock, N.J.: Published for the New York Historical Society by
Microfilming Corp. of America, 1978.
Contents: Correspondence, books, journals, and legal papers portraying
Burr's early years in the military, as a New York lawyer, his major
role in the formation of the Jeffersonian
party, and his subsequent rise to the position of Vice President of
the United States. The collection also depicts his fall from power
and provides insight into the duel with Alexander Hamilton,
which destroyed his promising career. With over 45,000 pages of information,
this collection is a valuable source for the study of New
York state and local history, territorial expansion in the new republic,
and women's history. Burr's journals for the years 1808-1812 offer
a fascinating record of intellectual and social life in Great Britain

The Timothy Pickering Papers.
Boston: Massachusetts Historical Society, 1966. 69 microfilm reels 35mm. 1 guide
(46 p., 23 cm.).
Contents: After serving as a soldier in the Revolutionary Army, Timothy
Pickering soon became one of the U.S.'s first Postmasters General. He
is credited
with organizing and increasing the efficiency of the U.S. Postal Service.
He also served as Secretary of War, and then Secretary of State for several
years. In addition to Pickering's personal correspondence
from and to various close family members, the collection
also contains his business and legal papers. Of special
interest are tracts and newspaper articles promoting
his views on various government officials (including
the President), as well as the most hotly debated
issues of the day.
