Content: Full runs of 88 American periodicals that began publication in the 18th century. Includes general interest magazines as well as more specialized periodicals in the arts and sciences.

Access: Individual titles are in Socrates. Staff in Media-Microtexts will retrieve material from the collection if you specify "Microfilm 051/4" and provide the item's reel number from Socrates.

Treats 340 American magazines published 1730-1850. Separate author and title sections for general prose, fiction, poetry, book reviews, and songs. Inconsistent and idiosyncratic but still useful for depth of coverage.
A History of American Magazines
By Frank Luther Mott. Cambridge, Harvard University Press, 1938-68. 5 vols.
PN4877.M632 General Reference, Green Library.
Discusses important events and topics in the history of American magazines as well as the history of individual magazines. Each volume contains a chronological list of magazines, and a general index. Volume I, which covers the years 1741-1850, is especially relevant for the American Periodical Series I microfilm collection.
