printed in England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, and all books in English
wherever printed, if for use in England and Scotland," in the period

Research Aids for Early English Books, 1475-1640
- A Short-Title Catalogue of Books Printed in England, Scotland,
& Ireland and of English Books Printed Abroad 1475-1640
- By Alfred W. Pollard and G. R. Redgrave. London: The Bibliographical
Society, 1946. Second edition, revised and enlarged, 1986.
Z2002. P771946 or 1976 General Reference, Green Library; Rare Books
Reference, Green Library; Media-Microtexts, Green Library
Both editions are organized alphabetically by author (or by title, if
the author is anonymous). The 1946 edition does not have an index, while
the revised edition contains several indices, including an index of
printers and publishers, and a geographical index. The revised STC contains
new titles and information on further editions, distinctions of issue,
shared printings, and variant imprints. Most items in the revised STC
retain the numbers given to them in the original STC, with a few exceptions.
In some cases, a single entry in the old STC has been made into two
or more in the revision (e.g., if other editions have been found). In
this case, additional editions have been given the same base number
with a decimal addition (e.g. 12010, 12010.3, and 12010.5). When an
entry from the original STC has been moved, the new entry contains a
note of the old number, and the old number is now a cross-reference.

These works are arranged by STC entry number. Once the entry number
has been found in the STC, it can be looked up in this work to find
the reel number. Each volume was published as the collection was filmed,
and there is no cumulative issue, so the cumulative cross index (see
below) can be consulted for greater ease (however, the cumulative cross-index
does not contain information about editions or condition of copies microfilmed,
while this work does).
