This catalog consists of an alphabetical list by author of the 1548 titles in the collection. Annuals and anonymous items are listed by title within the same list.

The format is given for each item. The pagination is the last page with printing on it so that if there is a blank leaf with a printer's imprint on the verso, the page with the printer's imprint is the number in square brackets. If there is a blank page after the last printed page it is not included in the numbering.

The presence of ink inscriptions, presentation inscriptions, book plates, binder's labels, and subscription lists is recorded. Ex-library copies are also noted.

Bibliographies frequently cited in the catalog are referred to by the following abbreviations:

NCBEL, II, III: The New Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature, Volume 2 and Volume 3. (Cambridge, 1969-1977).

Johnson: C. R. Johnson, Provincial Poetry 1789-1839. British Verse Printed in the Provinces: The Romantic Background (London, 1992). This bibliography describes the collection amassed by C.R. Johnson in the 1970s and 1980s. Since many of the volumes of provincially printed poetry in this collection are from the Johnson collection, this catalogue notes such volumes as "The Johnson copy."
