Description of the Collection
This collection of 1,172 small-cast one-act plays dating from 1892 to
1992 was assembled by Lewis W. Heniford while he was writing 1/2/3/4
For the Show: A Guide to Small-Cast One-Act Plays [PN6120.05 H46 1995
V.1-2, HASRC (Lane Room), Green Library]. "Small-cast" refers
to four or fewer roles in a script; "one-act" means staging
the play without an internal intermission. Drawing broadly from history
and geography, this collection includes plays for children and adults,
plays published alone or in collections, and plays for stage, broadcast,
and puppetry.
If you wish to use the collection, please first consult 1/2/3/4 For
the Show, and once you have established the name of the playwright
and the title of the play you wish to view, take this information to the
Department of Special Collections and request that the text be retrieved
from the Lewis W. Heniford Collection [PN6120.O5 L49]. However, please
note that all titles from 1/2/3/4 For the Show are not necessarily
included in the Heniford Collection. Also, individual titles are not listed
in Socrates. The Heniford Collection is currently in the process of being
organized alphabetically by author. When this is complete, a guide located
in the Special Collections' Reading Room will indicate the alphabetical
range of each box.
