An amusing essay on poetry-writing with commentary, entirely irreverant,
on Swinburne and Wordsworth: "Thus Mr Sw*nb*rne uses very little else
but animal matter in the compostion of his dishes...whilst Mr Wordsworth,
on the contrary, confined himself almost exclusivley to the confection of
primrose pudding.." With references to the "milk and water"
of Tennyson and "the vegetable matter" of Shelley. One section
is entitled "How to make an epic poem like Mr. T*nn*s*n" and similar
treatments are accorded to Matthew Arnold, Robert Browning, the Pre-raphaelites,
the Spasmodics and the work concludes with instruction how to make "A
satanic popem like the late Lord Byron."
