Content: A microfilm collection of material from the collection
of the Bodleian Library, Oxford in two parts:
Part one contains early women's journals dating from 1700 through 1832.
Largely based on the collection of Early Newspapers and Essayists formed
by the late John Thomas Hope, it contains 40 titles chosen to represent
a variety of genres, including prescriptive literature, literary journals,
advice literature, tatlers, fashion journals, general instruction journals,
entertainments, and political literature. The first part concludes with
two miscellaneous volumes containing short runs of 181 titles published
between 1801 and 1837. Among the major titles included in part one are:

Part two contains Advice Books, Manuals, Almanacs, and Journals, dating
from 1625 through 1837, and focuses on prescriptive literature and conduct
books. These include household manuals, letter-writing manuals, guidance
books on marriage and bringing up children, advice books on diet, health
and law, guides to the education of young women, and the descriptions
of correct moral behavior. These 320 items in part two are arranged under
