A collection of links to portals, organizations, collections, and publications having to do with the culture and history of the Habsburg monarchy and its successor states in central Europe from 1500 to the present. Affiliated
with the Center for Austrian Studies, the Society for Austrian and Habsburg History, the Czechoslovak History Conference and the American Association for the Study of Hungarian History.
- Deutschland.de is the "megaportal," the
main gateway, to Germany's web sites.
- The
Anthropology of German Studies is an informal network for anthropologists
whose research is focused on German-speaking countries and on the German diaspora.
- The Library of Congress has
published country studies as part of its "Area
Handbook Program." They provide useful
overviews of a variety of topics relating to specific countries, including
historical surveys.
- German
Historical Institute (GHI). Independent Research
Institute based in Washington, D.C., and dedicated to the
promotion of historical research in Germany and the U.S. Strong
focus on German-American themes.
- Austrian
Institute of Economic Research - Österreichisches
Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung)-WIFO -
is a private non-profit organization. It maintains the WIFO site offering
information about the Institute, bibliographic references, publications,
and data pertaining to the Austrian economy. WIFO offers
citations and abstracts from the Institute's library, as well as
access to the Institute's publications, such as the Monatsbericht.
- Looted Art -- Research catalog
on material lost from German libraries and museums as a result of World War
II.
- Unabhängige Expertenkommission
Schweiz - Zweiter Weltkrieg. The Independent Commission of Experts
was established in December 1996 by a unanimously approved resolution
of the Swiss federal assembly (parliament). Its mandate was to investigate
the volume and fate of assets moved to Switzerland before, during and immediately
after the Second World War from a historical and legal point of view. After
a five-year period of investigative activity, the Commission presented
its Final Report. The report is accessible on internet.
- Historikerkommission
der Republik Österreich. The Historical Commission was established
jointly by the Austrian Federal Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, the Speaker
of the National Assembly and the Speaker of the Federal Council. The Commission's
mandate is to investigate and report on the whole complex of expropriations
in Austria during the Nazi era and on restitution and/or compensation (including
other financial or social benefits) after 1945 by the Republic of Austria.
Progress reports as well as the final report are accessible through this
site.
- Dokumentationsarchiv
des österreichischen Widerstandes (DÖW) has
established a website that provides an overview of its holdings,
projects, publications, events, and coworkers.

Senate's information system offers links to
other web pages with information about Berlin.
- berlinfo the first English-language web platform
for Germany's capital, providing comprehensive, well-researched
and reliable information gathered by a network of
international local experts.
- Information
on cultural events and tourism, including
arrival and departure times at Berlin's three airports:
Schšnefeld, Tegel and Tempelhof.
- Online version of Zitty, the magazine of
current and cultural events in Berlin.
- Architecture of embassy buildings and state missions in Berlin,
including architects, photographs, plans and interactive
maps.
For statistical information on Switzerland, the Bundesamt für
Statistik (BFS) maintains a website with press
releases, statistical summaries, information about new
publications and information sources. The Schweizerisches
Bundesarchiv offers publications, finding aids,
statistics, and other services of information provided by the
Swiss Federal Archives.
