Germanic Collections
Here is some basic advice on how to obtain materials in German
such as books and videos.
mediantis.de
(formerly Buchandel.de)
New version of Buchandel.de, now carries music, videos/DVDs, software, and
antiquarian items, in addition to books. Similar to amazon.com.
Access to the current version of the Verzeichnis
lieferbarer BŸcher (VLB) (German Books in Print) is still available.
buchkatalog.de
Catalog from KNO and K&V. Fewer German titles as in the VLB. In addition
to books, also offers videos/DVDs, magazines, antiquarian items, software,
music, and audio books. Online orderning. Similar to amazon.com.
libri.de - Buchhandlungen im Internet
Another amazon.com type site. Online retailer of books, CDs, Videos and CD-ROMs.
With reviews, commentaries und exerpts.
Mail Order Kaiser
on the web.
They take orders from the US, as well as the usual credit
cards (so currency conversion is painless). Delivery takes
about 3 or 4 weeks, and the postage charge is low. If you are
familiar with amazon.com, it's the same idea.
Kaiser also offers an extensive and inexpensive video list,
but is almost entirely in PAL format.
Amazon.de
Now, Amazon.com is on the web for Germany.
German Language Video
Center
For NTSC (US format), the biggest domestic list is
probably the German Language Video Center, a division of
Heidelberg Haus, in Indianapolis. Phone is (317) 547-1257;
fax is (317) 547-1263. There are many other specialized video
suppliers who will also supply foreign videos, but this one
deals exclusively with German titles.
Adler's Foreign Books.
For old-fashioned mail order, probably the best in the US is still Adler's
Foreign Books in Evanston, Illinois. Phone is (708) 866-6329; fax is (708)
866-6287. Prices are in dollars, with substantial markup vis-ˆ-vis the German
prices one would get from, for instance, Kaiser.
NEW!!! International
Book Import Service (IBIS).
IBIS can provide any title published in Germany either from their inventory
or by special order.
