Notable Acquisitions
- Alegria Latin American Collection
The personal library & papers of Fernando Alegria, Chilean
literary critic, consist of more than 4,000 volumes of Latin
American literature and correspondence with many Latin American
writers. Rare materials are located in Special Collections;
the remainder has been integrated with the circulating collection.
- Gay Latin American Literature
More than 600 titles of unique gay Latin American works since
the 1930s have been acquired, many are unique works of small runs
from independent presses. It complements the extensive English-language
holdings of the Flounders/Gay Fiction Collection.
- Mexican Graphic Art
Includes a large collection of José Guadalupe Posada and
Taller de Gráfica Popular pieces (posters, broadsides,
lithographs, etc.). A selection of 100 works was exhibited
from Nov. 2002 to Mar. 2003 in Green Library.
The Papeles privados collection
is made of fine art books printed by Ediciones Papeles Privados,
a fine arts press in Mexico City. This is the only complete set
available in the United States.
- Juana
de Ibarbourou Archives
The Collection of 5,000 items covers the years 1915-1960. It includes
manuscripts and corrected proofs of several works, as well as
personal correspondence with other Latin American Writers.
- Lauerhass Braziliana Collection
Includes 4,500 volumes on 20th century Brazilian politics and
history, over 1,000 titles on bibliography and reference, travel
accounts from the 19th century and approximately 1,500 other rare
books, including a 1792 first edition of Tomas Antonio Gonzaga's
Marilia de Dirceo.
- Leal Latin American Collection
The personal library and papers
of literary critic Luis Leal consist of 1,400 volumes on Mexican
& Latin American Literature.
- Mexican Films and Movie
Poster Collection
This collection of more than 300 films in video format documents
the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, 1930s-1950s. In addition, 454
film posters, 2, 048 lobby cards and 7,585 photographic stills
provide a rich cinematic archive covering the 1930s-1970s.
