Religion on Internet and in Digital Formats
There is wealth of data available on the Internet for religious studies.
Almost every major academic institution with Religious Studies program
has a home page that lists selected resources and provides links to
others. They differ in comprehensiveness, arrangement, and purpose.
The resource is rapidly growing and institutional home pages such
as this one cannot maintain it current. Consequently, navigation through
variety of resources is advisable. In some areas there are centers
or persons that make an effort to keep the developments up to date.
Below listed are a few suggested starting points for your Internet
searches. The suggestions do not reflect a quality judgement about
these or any other site.

ATLA Religion
Database (1949-),
General Description (from ATLA Home Page):
The ATLA [and ATLAS - full text journals] Religion Database is an
essential tool for the study of religion. It is the premier index
to journal articles, book reviews, and collections of essays in
all fields of religion. The fact that many publishers solicit the
inclusion of their journals in ATLA RDB is indicative of the stature
it has achieved in the community of religion scholars. Journals
are selected for inclusion according to their scholarly merit and
scope. Journals representing all the major religious faiths, major
denominations, and numerous language groups are included. ATLA's
indexing of multi-author works, such as Festschriften and conference
proceedings, is unique among religion databases. Unlike indexes
that catalog books of essays as a single entry, ATLA indexes the
individual essays in each such work. Includes:
Religion Index One: Periodicals, 1949- (published 1952-). Semi-annual.
Cumulates every two years
Religion Index Two: Multi-author Works, 1976- (published 1978-).
Annual.
Research in Ministry from 1981-
Index to Book Reviews in Religion, 1986- (published 1989-)

The Institute for Theology and Peace (IThP),
Online Bibliography Theology
and Peace
The emphasis of the documentation is on individual disciplines within
theology. Literature from fields of philosophy, political science,
research into peace and conflict, international law and history
is taken into consideration if it appears to be relevant to questions
of peace ethics.
In the case of monographs, a special service means that relevant
contributions from collective volumes are also included. 580 periodicals
- mainly from Europe and North America - are evaluated. This evaluation
covers, whereever possible, all issues of any given periodical.

Catholic Church. Pope (1281-1285 : Martin IV)
Processus Martini P. IV contra Petru Arragonae et Palaeologum [computer
file]. ca. 1281.
1 scroll : vellum, ca. 8 feet long.
Pope Martin IV was, in fact, the second pope by that name, not the
fourth, because "Martin II" and "Martin III" were incorrect
spellings in the official papal lists and should have been "Marinus
II" and Marinus III." This explains why the above title includes
the words "aliis II."
Contents notes: Martin IV (pope from 22 Feb 1281 to March
28, 1285) completely reversed the policies of his predecessors
by throwing his support to the king of France. This unusually long
and detailed document issued by the papal chancery against
the Emperor of Byzantium Michael VIII Palaeologos and King
Peter III of Aragon illustrates the consequences of this reversal:
it threatens both rulers with excommunication unless
they promptly comply with the pope's commands. Both Michael Palaeologos
and Peter of Aragon were eventually excommunicated. This conflict
between the Holy See with the emperors of the East and the
Kings of Aragon has received much attention by historians.
