FAQ
The
Research Library Cooperative Program (RLCP) makes the library resources of
the University of California at Berkeley, Stanford University, and the University
of Texas at Austin available to faculty, graduate students and academic staff
from these institutions. Visiting Scholars are not eligible for RLCP. As outlined
in the Statement
of Principles, RLCP will be implemented in phases. The first phase makes
the
circulating collections of each participating library available for loan to program
participants through on-site visits, proxy or interlibrary loan. In another phase
collection specialists and bibliographers at the three libraries are exploring
shared purchase agreements to concentrate acquisition efforts in focused areas.
The first part of this phase involves Latin
American Collections. Finally, the program will seek to add other institutional
partners, particularly in Latin America, to join in cooperative programs and
digitizing
projects.

Services of the Program
-
Access and borrowing privileges in any participating library at UC Berkeley,
Stanford University, or UT Austin, subject to the regulations of that library.
-
Direct borrower-to-library requests for loans and photocopy services via
e-mail or fax.
Faculty, academic or professional staff, and currently registered graduate
students at UC Berkeley, Stanford University, and UT Austin are eligible
for RLCP privileges. RLCP does not serve undergraduates. Visiting Scholars at
Stanford University are not eligible for RLCP.
To request material from University of Texas at Austin,
one must register for a RLCP
card before completing the RLCP

Making Requests
Eligible Stanford and U.C. Berkeley patrons complete a RLCP Borrowing Request Form for each book or photocopy requested. Consult the appropriate catalog and enter the bibliographic information into the form.
To request material from University of Texas at Austin,
one must register for a RLCP
card before completing the RLCP
Borrowing Request Form. UT Austin patrons must register for the RLCP card
before submitting any request. It normally takes one or two working days, after
one applies, before the RLCP Card is valid for use.
Please note: RLCP is NOT an on-campus delivery service. Only request
materials that are not available at your home institution.
Loans should be available for pickup at your home library in approximately
one week.
Articles are delivered electronically via the web.
Patrons will receive an e-mail notification with directions to access
the document from the lending university's server.
Returning Materials
UC Berkeley users should return books borrowed from Stanford or UT Austin via
the Book Return chute in the Circulation Desk of Doe Library. Stanford users may
return UC Berkeley or UT Austin materials at the Loan Desk at Green Library. UT
Austin users must return RLCP books to the Interlibrary Service office.
Please allow at least five working days before the due date to ensure
timely arrival at the lending institution. Be sure the material is clearly
marked "Return to" and the name of the destination.
You are responsible for materials until they have been returned to the
library from which they were borrowed. Ask for a receipt when returning
material to absolve you of responsibility for payment of an item if it
becomes lost in the return mail.
Renewals
Books borrowed through the RLCP program may usually be renewed at least
once. Each institution has slightly different procedures. Please refer
to the appropriate section below for specific instructions.
Books Borrowed From UC Berkeley
When a patron renews for the first time via UC Berkley's Oskicat, the patron is required to create a PIN number.
1. Click on the My Oskicat link in the upper right corner of the UCB catalogue.
2. Enter patron name, Stanford Library ID and the generic PIN number 3403. Alternately
you may use your Stanford ID instead of Library ID, but preface it with the
capitalized letters "SU", for example: SU01010203.
3. Click on the modify PIN button to customize the PIN number.
4. My Oskicat will display the items that are checked out.
5. To renew all materials at once, press the Renew All button.
6. To renew selected material, check the box beside the title in the RENEW column.
7. Click the Renew Selected button. When items are renewed successfully, a new due date will appear in the
STATUS column.
Patrons who experience difficulty customizing their PIN number, may call UC Berkeley RLCP for assistance, (510) 642-2538.
Renewals may also be requested by sending an e-mail to rlcp@library.Berkeley.edu with a list of the books you want to renew.
Books Borrowed From Stanford
Send an e-mail to cooperative@stanford.edu. List each book by author, title, and barcode number. You will be notified
of the new due dates.
Books Borrowed From UT Austin

Recalls
If you have requested a book that is in use by another patron, you may ask that
the item be recalled and sent to you. Be sure to check the catalogs of all three
institutions in case the book is available without a recall.
Recalls From UC Berkeley
Recalls may be requested by sending an e-mail to rlcp@library.Berkeley.eduwith a citation of the book you want to recall.

shipped to your home library as soon as it becomes available.
