Exchequer (E)

The roles associated with the office of Exchequer changed considerably since its establishment by the Exchequer ordinances of 1323. In general, the office was responsible for public accounts and treasury functions. A detailed administrative and functional history is available in the Guide to the Contents of the Public Record Office volume 1, pp. 45-113 and volume 3, p.131 (CD1043.A553 SSRC).

In the following list, when a class number after a title is repeated with no further numbers, the entire class is held. However, if the class number is followed by a forward slash "/", this indicates that only the volumes specified after the slash are held. For example, "E.101/125:1-5" indicates Stanford holds volume 125, parts 1-5 of Exchequer class 101.

Most citations are accompanied by information indicating where the class is indexed, listed, etc.
