Caribbean: Planning for Adaptation to
Global Climate Change (CPACC) ø
Supports Caribbean countries in preparing to cope with the adverse
effects of global climate change (GCC), particularly sea level rise in
coastal and marine areas.
Earth Council - Founded
in 1992 to promote and advance the implementation of the Earth Summit
agreements. At their site you can access (via FTP) documents
from the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro and speeches and
articles back to 1996.
European
Environment Agency, Climate - Reports on greenhouse gases emission
assessment, trends and climate change in Europe.
Global Change Data Gateway
- A good place to locate timely news and U.S. agency reports and programs in
a range of disciplines, from agriculture to solar physics.
InterSun, a collaborative
effort between WHO, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the
World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the International Agency on Cancer
Research (IARC) and the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation
Protection (ICNIRP). InterSun studies health and environmental effects from
enhanced ultraviolet radiation exposure due to stratospheric ozone
depletion.
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change - The role of the IPCC is to assess the scientific, technical
and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of the risk of
human-induced climate change. It does not carry out new research nor does
it monitor climate related data. It bases its assessment mainly on published
and peer reviewed scientific technical literature.
Natural
Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Global Warming -
NRDC is spearheading efforts to reduce greenhouse gas pollution, both in the
U.S. and internationally. See policy papers and fact sheets on international
protocols on greenhouse gases.
UN Global
Environmental Facility, Ozone Depletion Studies - Reports
on projects.
WINDandSEA
- The oceanic and atmospheric Internet locator compiled by the Library
of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency. Contains topically organized
links to science and policy sites.
World
Bank on global climate change ø The Bank
reports on the economic impact of carbon emissions on global climate change,
tools for calculating the economic impact carbon emissions, and programs
that incorporate strategies for reduction of greenhouse gases.
World Bank,
Montreal Protocol - The World Bank became an
implementing agency for the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation
of the Montreal Protocol (MFMP) in 1991, when it undertook investment
operations to support the phase out of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS).
World Climate
Research Programme - The WCRP was established in 1980, under the
joint sponsorship of International Council
for Science (ICSU) and the World
Meteorological Organization (WMO). The program encompasses
studies of the global atmosphere, oceans, sea and land ice, and the land
surface which together constitute the Earth's physical climate system.
World Meteorological Organization
ø WMOÕs Atmospheric Research and Environmental Program (AREP) conducts a
global atmosphere watch and conducts studies on world and tropical weather.
Other programs include agricultural meteorology, marine meteorology, and
hydrology and water resources.
WRI Atmosphere and
Climate Statistical Data - Global estimates of emissions from
industrial processes; a detailed view of emissions in specific countries;
the global time series of CO2 emissions from industrial processes; and
changes in concentrations for important trace gases that either contribute
to global warming or to the depletion of the ozone layer.
Transportation and
OECD climate
change and environmentally sustainable transport - OECD countries
face important challenges to reconcile transport and sustainable
development. This site provides an overview of OECD work on transport and
the environment.
