International Information on the Environment
Energy
Alternative Fuels
Data Center ¿ Many alternative fuels such as electric,
biodiesel and solar are being used today in place of fossil fuels like
oil. The ADFC is the U.S. Department of EnergyÍs resource for information
on these fuels
International Project for Sustainable
Energy Paths (IPSEP) This is a private research organization that
investigates innovative "no regrets" strategies that could mitigate
this threat of global climate change. Research focuses on energy and development
policies that can reduce carbon emissions from fossil fuel use while saving
money and improving the prospects of poorer and richer nations alike.
It was started in 1986 by Dr. Florentin Krause, then a staff scientist
at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory's Energy and Environment Division.
L'institut de l'³nergie
et de l'environnement de la Francophonie - IEPF is a subsidiary
body of the Agence intergouvernementale de la Francophonie. It's mission
is to initiate and support capacity building initiatives at the national
level and to promote partnerships in the fields of Energy and Environment.
Includes full-text issues of the InstituteÍs bulletin.
UNESCO, World Solar Commission
- WSC was established in March 1995 to provide high-level leadership
and to encourage wider use of all forms of renewable energy- essential
in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and as a contribution to
eradicating poverty through energy
U.S. DOE, Biofuels for
Sustainable Transportation - Biofuels are alcohols, ethers,
esters, and other chemicals made from cellulosic biomass such as herbaceous
and woody plants, agricultural and forestry residues, and a large portion
of municipal solid and industrial waste. The term biofuels can refer to
fuels for electricity and fuels for transportation.
Statistics
WRI
Energy and Materials Statistics - Production data for fossil
fuels, primary electricity, and natural minerals and materials; energy
consumption data for commercial and traditional fuels; and information
on changing trends in production of electricity.
Americas
Inter-American
Development Bank, Energy Conservation (IADB) ¿ Conservation and
alternative energy policies and publications by the Bank. The Bank supports
borrowing member country efforts to strengthen environmental legislation,
establish regulations and systems of incentives, and adopt sanctions aimed
at promoting environmental conservatio.
Organización
Latinoamericana de Energia (OLADE) ¿ Publications on reduction
of greenhouse gases, environmental impact of exploiting geothermal energy
and developing hydroelectric power sources, etc.
OAS Renewable Energy
in the Americas (REIA) Program - REIA offers
government officials access to information on renewable energy and energy
efficient technologies, and serves as a point of contact for the private
sector into the energy sector in the Americas. REIA carries out institutional
and technical capacity building programs, and sponsors periodic conferences
and workshops on sustainable energy technologies
UN
Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC/CEPAL),
Energy ¿ Abstracts on documents on energy conservation and management,
geothermal resources, privatization of utilities.
Asia-Pacific
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
¿ APEC published reports on energy consumption, renewable energy and
environmentally friendly transportation systems.
UN, Economic
and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Energy Resources
¿ The Energy Resources Section organizes meetings and group training and
conceptualizes, designs and implements regional technical cooperation
projects in the areas of: Energy
for Sustainable Development , Promotion
of Energy Efficiency and Conservation, and Enhanced
Application of Renewable Energy Technologies
