International Boundary
and Water Commission ¿ The IBWC mission is to provide
environmentally-sensitive, timely, and fiscally-responsible boundary and
water services along the United States and Mexico border region that
includes the Colorado and Rio Grande rivers and transborder aquifers.
International Commission on Irrigation
and Drainage (ICID) - ICID is a scientific, technical and
voluntary not-for-profit Non-Governmental International Organization with
headquarters in New Delhi, India. The Commission is dedicated to enhancing
the worldwide supply of food and fiber for all people by improving water and
land management and the productivity of irrigated and drained lands through
appropriate management of water, environment and application of irrigation,
drainage and flood management techniques.
International Rivers Network (IRN)
- IRN's mission is to halt and reverse the
degradation of river systems; to support local communities in protecting and
restoring the well-being of the people, cultures and ecosystems that depend
on rivers; to promote sustainable, environmentally sound alternatives to
damming and channeling rivers.
Nile Basin Initiative (NBI
Secretariat, Entebbe, Uganda) ¿ "The NBI is a regional partnership
within which countries of the Nile basin have united in common pursuit of
the sustainable development and management of Nile watersƒ The Nile Basin
Initiative seeks to harness the tremendous potential of the Nile for the
benefit of the people of the basin, both now and for generations to
come."

Dam-Reservoir Info
and Impact Archive - impact information on dams, water
diversions, impoundments, and hydroelectric projects, and related links.
DRWG strives to preserve the integrity of the natural hydraulic cycle, and
to alert citizen groups and decision-makers to the hazards and detrimental
effects of uncontrolled water development and reservoir and dam
construction.
International
Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) -In addition to the three
classical criteria of technical, economic and financial feasibility, dam
projects have to satisfy a fourth and particularly stringent criterion,
namely social and political acceptance. Today the decisive factor for such
acceptance, ranking on a par withdam safety, is compatibility with the
environment.
World Commission on Dams -
Formed to review the development effectiveness of large dams and assess
alternatives; develop a framework for assessing options and
decision-making processes for water resources, energy services and
development; and develop internationally-acceptable criteria and
guidelines for planning, designing, construction, operation, monitoring,
and decommissioning of dams.
