Access and Circulation
Microtext material may be viewed in the facility or audio-visual media may be checked out to anyone with a valid Stanford ID card.
Borrowing
Faculty -
- Borrowing limit: None. You have unlimited check-outs.
- Loan Period: 3 days.
- Renewals: Yes. One online permitted (via My Account), for an additional 3 days.
- Extended loans: Longer borrowing for course-related purposes can be requested at the service point. It must be approved by a supervisor.
Students and other borrowers -
- Borrowing limits: Yes - 3 individual call numbers at one time. (The number of discs per call number doesn't count toward the total.)
- Loan Period: 3 days
- Renewals: No.
- Exceptions: At the discretion of a supervisor, you may renew items in-hand if no other patrons have requested the materials.
Returns
Materials should be returned directly to the Media-Microtext Center desk.
After we close, return them to the book drop designated "Media and Reserves Drop Box", located outside the main Green Library entrance.
(You will not be penalized for this: items returned via the book drop are backdated to the previous day upon check-in.)
Please do not return materials to other libraries or drop-boxes on campus.
Fines
- Audio-visual materials -
- Overdue fines are charged at a rate of $1.50/day, per disc and accrue to a maximum of $10.50 per disc.
- 3 days after the due date, an additional replacement fine of $30 and a $5 processing fee is applied. If you return the item(s) we will remove the $30 replacement(s).
- Course Reserve materials -
- Fines accrue overdue fines at a rate of $1.00/hour to a maximum of $30.00 after being overdue 1 day.
- 3 day after the due date, an additional replacement fine of $30 and a $5 processing fee is applied. If you return the item(s) we will remove the $30 replacement(s).
Note: if your total fines exceed $50 you may be blocked from further borrowing.
Non-Stanford user privileges
Visitors or Access card holders -
- Your yellow access-only pass or Privileges-issued Access-only ID allows you entry to the SULAIR libraries, but you cannot borrow items from the media collections.
Stanford-affiliated programs may be able to borrow media materials -
- Continuing Studies Program (CSP) - you must obtain an ID card from the Privileges Desk on the first floor of Green Library before borrowing any media.
- University of California Reciprocal Service Program (RSP) - RSP students may use media in Green Library after obtaining their borrowing privileges from the Privileges Desk.
Some programs are eligible for borrowing material via their home institution:
- Research Library Cooperative Program (RLCP) - Media is not lent as part of this program. You must request an interlibrary-loan from your parent institution. Check with your home library for details.
- UC campuses - Some media is lent via Stanford Interlibrary Lending to UC campuses. Check with your home library for details.
- RLS ShaRes members - Some media is lent via Stanford's Interlibrary Lending to your parent instutition. Check with your home library for details.

Media or microfilm material requested by Stanford affiliated-users via ILL is held at the Circulation Desk under the requestor’s name. Use of these items is restricted to the media/microfilm area and can be viewed on machinery available in the facility. When the loan period expires the material will be retrieved by ILL and returned to the owning library, unless an extension is requested by the patron.
