Abstract: A survey has been made of the small gastropods of four rocky beaches of the Monterey Peninsula. Thirty-four species were identified. Most of the identifications could be only tentative. Notes have been made on the relative abundance of each species at each beach where they were found. The distribution of these animals within one area was apparently not controlled by any unique factors, but by the same factors operating to control larger animals in the intertidal, but the small gastropods show a higher sensitivity to some of these. Wave shock and dessication were suggested as the two factors most important in controlling their occurrence.
