Abstract: Within each species, Niebla combeoides (Nyl.) Rund. and Bowl. and Niebla homalea (Ach.) Rund. and Bowl., thalli growing on different slopes will contain the same amount of water. Regardless of slope, in two out of three experiments, N. homalea shows that it contains more water than does N. combeoides. The water content of these lichens depends largely on atmospheric moisture.
