Opening and Closing the Library
Opening—If you are opening on the weekend, you will need to use
the library key kept in locker #167 across the hall. See the Operations Manager
for the combination.
Turn on the lights:
- Upstairs and downstairs master switches (switches with red indicator
lamps--above the fire extinguisher).
- Wall switches inside the Reference Room (between
Henry and the glass).
Start up the circulation computer.
Log into the network.
Start Unicorn WorkFlows.
Switch the security gate on.
Restart computers in the public area:
- Five kiosks (3 upstairs and 2 downstairs)
- Printer server
- Two Ear Training stations
- Four Streaming Audio stations
Unlock the entrance door (the exit side is to remain locked).
Collect all browsed items from the upstairs tables and trucks
and scan them using the “Mark Item Used” wizard.
Closing
Thirty minutes before closing:
- Collect the browsed items from the grey shelves and reading
desks downstairs
- Bring them upstairs and leave them
on one of the tables for scanning in the morning.
Fifteen minutes
before closing--flash the downstairs lights.
Ten
minutes before closing:
- Advise patrons that we are about to close.
- Turn off stacks lights and carrel lights.
- Shut down all downstairs computers and turn
off all monitors.
Five minutes before closing:
- Shut down all ground floor computers and
turn off the monitors.
- Lock the entrance door.
Closing time:
- Shut down the circulation computer
and turn off the monitor.
- Verify that all patrons have left
the library.
- Change the seven day stamp.
- Turn the desk calendar page.
- Turn off the security gate.
- Turn off the lights.
- As you leave, check that the door
is locked.
