Ceased Serials
If you are notified that a serial has ceased publication, do the
following:
1. Look up the title in Unicorn.
2. Check to see that the bibliographic record has been closed (number
of volumes inserted in the 300 field; closing date present in the
260 field). If it has been closed, continue to step 3. If not, print
out the record and send to Serials cataloging (in the MARC
Unit) with a request to have the record closed (provide relevant
information). Then continue to step 3.
3. Print out a copy of the record, notate it with the ceased date
and give to the Bibliographer as an FYI.
4. Go to the Current Periodicals shelf. Remove any issues and the
title label from shelf.
5. Note any missing issues and claim
or request a unitary order as necessary.
6. For complete runs and volumes, send issues for binding (see
serials binding procedures).
