About Music Library Serials
New titles
The Music Bibliographer requests new title subscriptions by sending
order slips with appropriate details directly to the Ordering
Unit (contact Eve Citron, Ordering Specialist).
Incoming items
Serial subscriptions arrive at Serials
Receiving where holdings information is updated. Issues are
then sent to Music via campus mail to be put in the Bibliographer’s
mailbox for review. After review the Bibliographer puts issues on
the Serials Check-in shelves, or routes to the Head Librarian, who
then does the same. Occasional issues arrive flagged as duplicates,
and are also put on the Check-in shelves.
Supplements to be cataloged separately should be flagged with instructions
before being placed on the Check-in shelves.
Serial issues acquired directly from outside sources to fill in
gaps (e.g., through MLA-L) should be given on arrival to the Head,
MTS to update holdings.
New serial titles acquired as gifts should be sent on arrival to
the MARC
Cataloging Unit.

Withdrawals
A printout of the serial record indicating issues or volumes to
withdraw should be given to the Head, MTS. The physical volumes
can then be stamped “withdrawn” in red on the inside
front and back covers and either sent to Serials (for exchange)
or put in recycling, as instructed by the Bibliographer.
Duplicates
Duplicate issues arrive on occasion through subscriptions, trial
offers, or as gifts. Duplicate issues are filed alphabetically and
are kept until a volume is confirmed bound. The Operations Manager
sends unwanted duplicates to Serials in small batches.
