Gluck, Christoph Willibald, Ritter von, 1714-1787.
[Orfeo ed Euridice]
Orfeo ed Euritide [sic]: cantata. [ca. 1769]
T.p. has inscription "Parigi" in contemporary hand, but
this is not the 1762 Italian version of the opera published in Paris
in 1764. It is likely an unpublished version, based on the 1769
version, conducted by Gluck in Parma, for the wedding of the Archduchess
Maria Amelia and Duke Ferdinand of Parma. As with the 1769 version,
there are no divisions between the 3 acts, and the part of Orfeo
is scored for soprano castrato instead of alto castrato. Includes
an aria and recitative not listed in New Grove Opera.
Number of watermarks, including a rabbit or rat inside a circle,
countermarked “G.T.”, and trefoil within a circle countermarked
“M.T.”
Acquired through the Lucie King Harris Fund.

Stravinsky, Igor, 1882-1971.
Letters to L. Arnold Weissberger, 1954-1962.
Several of the letters are about the ballet AGON which premiered
in Los Angeles on June 17, 1907. This ballet marked his first work
using the twelve-tone technique of Arnold Schoenberg instead of
the neoclassic style which Stravinsky had previously used. All of
Stravinsky's subsequent works were influenced by the twelve-tone
technique use in AGON. Other items in the collection deal with such
matters as publication of an article he had done about his RITE
OF SPRING, going to Mexico and San Francisco to conduct concerts,
printing and publishing of some of his works, contracts with various
record companies, and a possible NBC film production, as well as
other subjects. [Description from dealer description]
Weissberger was an attorney in New York who was Stravinsky's business
manager for his musical affairs.
