Course Reserves
The Physics Library provides a Course Reserves service for the
Departments of Physics and Applied Physics. To identify and locate
items on reserve, consult the Course
Reserves Catalog, CourseWork,
your class syllabus, or the Reserves Binder at the Physics Library
circulation desk.
Borrowing Reserves
Present your valid ID to use reserve items. Most course reserves
circulate for either two hours or one day. They may be used outside
the Library. Renewals can be done only in person with the item(s).
To ensure the prompt discharge of reserve materials from your record,
please return these items by handing them to a staff member during
Library open hours. DO NOT return reserve materials to the outside
book drop unless the Library is closed.
Reserve Fines
Because ready and equal access to reserve materials is critical
to the academic enterprise, stiff fines are assessed for tardy responses
to items recalled for reserves and for reserve items kept beyond
their loan period. Fines for hourly reserves accrue at the rate
of $1.00 per hour to a maximum of $30.00. Courtesy overdue reminders
are sent one day after the time due. A bill for replacement charges
is sent three days after the due date. Daily reserves are billed
at $1.50 per day to a maximum of $10.50. We need and appreciate
your prompt action in helping to make reserve items available to
your colleagues.
Placing Items on Reserve
Please provide adequate time to process lists. While some items
may already be in the Library, others may need to be recalled or
purchased. Before each quarter, a letter calling for reserve items
is sent to faculty along with a list of items previously placed
on reserve. To expedite requests, please amend old lists and provide
complete bibliographic citations for new items before returning
your list to the Physics Library. You may need to obtain copyright
clearance for photocopies before we can place them on reserve for
you.

The Physics Library has approximately five hundred books on permanent
reserve. Most of these are high-use titles. Loan periods are two
hours, one day, seven days, fourteen days, and twenty-eight days.
Permanent reserves are listed by author, title, and call number
in the Reserves Binder at the circulation desk. Course reserve borrowing
regulations and fines also apply to permanent reserves.
