Preparation and Collections Housing
All incoming SUL/AIR general collections materials,
regardless of their format and media, are routed through
the Preservation Department in order to be prepped for
shelving and circulation.
The
materials are sent to the Binding
& Finishing Unit from the Cataloging Department
or from the various branch libraries. Here materials
receive spine labels with call numbers, date-due slips,
gift plates, property stamps, and security targets.
Some incoming materials are sent to a commercial bindery
by Binding & Finishing before they are sent to the
shelves for circulation.
Other
materials are routed to the Conservation
& Book Repair Unit to receive housings before
they are shelved. Housings are enclosures which protect,
provide support, or keep items in several pieces together.
Examples of collections housings include phase boxes
and pamphlet bindings.
